Fresh strawberries! Considered a superfood, one cup of these beautiful red berries contain more vitamin C than an orange! They are high in fiber, folate and flavonoids which may help fight against free radicals and cancer. Strawberries can be protective over joints as well since they have anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, they are heart smart since they are packed with potassium and antioxidants. Strawberries are also low in calorie with one cup containing only 53 calories. (1)
Couple those strawberries with the creaminess of bananas (also loaded with lots of goodness) and we’ve got a pretty yummy smoothie bowl.
To give this smoothie a nice texture, I blended frozen strawberries (freshly frozen the day they were picked), with a banana, a touch of maple syrup and some non-dairy milk. To the base, add whatever toppings you like! I chose more fresh strawberries, sliced bananas, raw oats, hemp seed and coconut flakes.
The strawberry banana smoothie bowl is a sweet yet nutritious breakfast or afterschool snack even the kids will love!
